Prof. dr. Paul A. Kirschner, dr.h.c. is emeritus hoogleraar onderwijspsychologie aan de Open Universiteit (NL) en doctor honoris causa (eredoctor) aan de Universiteit van Oulu (Finland). Hij was eerder hoogleraar onderwijspsychologie en programmadirecteur van het programma Fostering Effective, Efficient and Enjoyable Learning environments (FEEEL) aan het Welten Instituut, het onderzoekscentrum voor leren, lesgeven en technologie aan de Open Universiteit van Nederland en gasthoogleraar onderwijs met een speciale nadruk op leren en interactie in de lerarenopleiding aan de Universiteit van Oulu. Hij is research fellow van de American Educational Research Association, de International Society of the Learning Sciences en de Netherlands Institute for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences and Humanities. Hij is ook voormalig lid van zowel de Nederlandse Onderwijsraad als de Wetenschappelijk Technische Raad van SURF.

Hij is een internationaal erkend expert in zijn vakgebied met meer dan 350 wetenschappelijke publicaties waaronder ook onderwijsboeken zoals Ten Steps to Complex Learning (nu in de derde herziene editie en vertaald/gepubliceerd in Korea en China), How Learning Happens: Seminal Works in Educational Psychology and What They Mean in Practice, Jongens Zijn Slimmer dan Meisjes en Juffen zijn Toffer dan Meesters (beiden over mythes over leren en onderwijs en ook in het Engels verkrijgbaar), Op de Schouders van Reuzen en Wijze Lessen: Twaalf bouwstenen voor effectieve didactiek. Hij schrijft ook regelmatig columns en blogs voor Didactief.

In ExCEL vervult Paul de rol op van gastprofessor.

Prof. dr. Paul A. Kirschner, dr.h.c. is emeritus professor educational psychology at the Open University of the Netherlands and doctor honoris cause (honorary doctor) at the University of Oulu in Finland. He is a former professor Educational Psychology and programme director of the Fostering Effective, Efficient and Enjoyable Learning environments (FEEEL) programme at the Welten Institute, the research centre for learning, teaching and technology at the Open University of the Netherlands. He was also a distinguished visiting professor of Education with special emphasis on learning and interaction in teacher education at the University of Oulu. He is a research fellow of the American Educational Research Association, the International Society of the Learning Sciences and the Dutch Institute for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences and Humanities. He is also a former member of the Dutch Educational Council and of the Scientific Technical Council of the Foundation for University Computing Facilities (SURF).

Paul is an internationally recognised expert in his field with over 350 publications and educational books like Ten Steps to Complex Learning (now in its third revised edition and translated/published in Korea and China), How Learning Happens: Seminal Works in Educational Psychology and What They Mean in Practice, Urban Myths about Learning and Education and More Urban Myths about Learning and Education, Op de Schouders van Reuzen and Lessons for learning: twelve building blocks for effective education. He also regularly writes columns and blog posts for Didactief.
